Michigan State Outlasts Indiana In Overtime

Jan 31, 2011 6:19 AM

Michigan State edged Indiana for an 84-83 overtime win at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center on Sunday night.

Draymond Green made a go-ahead shot with 29.3 seconds left to give the Spartans the victory.

"Our team needed it more than our program," coach Tom Izzo said. "It was needed. It's been a rough week."

The Spartans avoided their first four-game losing streak in four years after losing to rival Michigan at home for the first time since 1997 and dismissing junior guard Korie Lucious from the team this week.

"I knew how much this game meant, not just to the team, but to coach," Green said. "He was going against his friend, Tom Crean, and it was his birthday."

Hoosiers: We're Better Than We Showed

Jan 27, 2011 12:38 PM

Indiana has lost eight of its past nine games going into Thursday's game with No. 20 Illinois in Bloomington.

“We know we’re better than we showed,” said guard Matt Roth, who sat out last year with a broken foot. “We’ve got some of the best fans in the country. As long as you go out there and fight as hard as you can and compete as well as you can, they’ll be there for you.”

AD Glass Envisions 'Golden Age' At Indiana

Jan 19, 2011 4:50 PM

Indiana athletics director Fred Glass envisions a "golden age" for the Hoosiers.

"We sit here 0-4 in the Big Ten on the day of the interview," Glass said specifically of the school's basketball team.

"That's not where anybody wants to be. In terms of having the right coach, we absolutely do. I love Tom Crean. He's doing all the things the right way. Lesser coaches would have let some of the knuckleheads around a little longer to make the fall not quite so precipitous. He did the right thing. He cleaned house. It was a house that needed to be cleaned. He's building it back up the right way. He's got quality kids. They're doing well academically. The record will catch up with that. Next year we'll be even more improved. I think it's going the right way. Hoosier Nation is sticking with us. With the records we've had, to still be killing it attendance-wise, is a great tribute to Indiana basketball and the people who have supported it through the years."

The Hoosiers are 10-8 and are currently 1-4 in the Big Ten.

Indiana's Creek Fractures Kneecap

Jan 18, 2011 9:12 AM

Hoosiers guard Maurice Creek has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right kneecap.

Creek spent nearly a year trying to recover from a fractured left kneecap.

"You can't imagine how big a blow it is to him," coach Tom Crean said. "It's a tough, tough situation, and I hope everyone will think about him and say a prayer for Mo and his family."

With less than two minutes to go in Indiana's 80-61 victory over Michigan on Saturday, Creek caught a long inbound pass, scored on a layup and then crashed to the floor.

Indiana Won't Punish Elston For Tripping Incident

Jan 12, 2011 9:00 AM

Indiana coach Tom Crean said he addressed Derek Elston’s tripping incident earlier this week.

Crean said Elston told him it was unintentional. After the two discussed the incident at length, it was decided that no punishment would be handed out.

"I didn’t get a good look at it during the game at all. I didn’t see it until it was on the film," Crean said. "I brought him up to the plane. He stayed with the same thing. He said to me that he didn’t do it intentionally. I know exactly what it looks like. I told him the same thing. When I looked at, it the referee had a good view of it. I didn’t argue it."

Elston appeared to intentionally stick his left leg into the path of a cutting Northwestern's Alex Marcotullio during the second half of Sunday's game.
